URL managers simplifies routine maintenance tasks for greatly improved productivity in sh404SEF® v2

This post is the last in a 4-part series.

In the first three posts of this series we discussed pageId (automated tiny URL creation), mobile device detection and template switching and the re-designed sh404SEF® interface.

Now we will focus on the improvements to the specific managers for URLs, 404 Requests and Meta data. This is a critical part of sh404SEF® v2 as these managers are used daily: they are the most common way that people use sh404SEF® once their site is up-and-running.

For example, viewing the URL manager displays the existing SEF URLs that have been written to the database, as expected. The pageId, duplicate URLs and URL aliases are also shown as live links to the appropriate tab of the URL editor.

Clicking a URL for editing reveals a modal popup with tabs to (i) edit the URL itself, (ii) add/modify the the page title and other meta data and (iii) add/modify aliases (custom URLs for your content). These three items are all managed from the same popup interface making URL management/maintenance much more practical than in the past where editing these items was spread over a few different screens/managers.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the URL manager in sh404SEF® v2 focuses on the full control of your web site pages and URLs from one single screen. The 404 Requests and the Title & Meta managers have also been re-worked with the same basic idea. They both makes use of modal popups where appropriate for improved efficiency. In addition, the Meta manager now allows data entry for several urls on the same page in addition to the modal popup modification for single URLs.

Each of these managers also display a consistent set of  filtering and search options that can be used to quickly locate the URL(s) of interest. You can use the to limit the URLs displayed to only URLs with duplicates, or only those with meta data set, or those lacking meta data. In addition, you can display data for just a specific component installed on your site, or for a specific language. Identifying specific URLs (such as those without a Meta description for example) becomes incredibly fast and easy.

Of course there are a lot more improvements 'under the hood' in sh404SEF® v2 including an MVC structure and fresh new code, but this series of blog  posts really focused on the highlights of the new version. We hope you like it as much as we do and remember, if you use sh404SEF®, please vote and leave a review at the Joomla Extensions Directory (free account required to vote/review).
