Before starting the upgrade, make a full backup of the files on your site and your database. I cannot stress how important this is.
Also, note that customized themes and custom parameters for modules/plugins/mambots will not be saved during the upgrade. The main JCal Pro® settings as well as calendars, categories and events will not be affected by the upgrade.
Let's get started:
- Did I mention how important it is to back-up all the files and the database before proceeding ?
- Make a separate file back-up of any customized themes you may have installed. Note that themes change between versions and if you have customized the default theme or a premium theme, you will have to port these changes manually after the upgrade process. Porting theme changes is beyond the scope of this FAQ.
- In the Joomla backend, use the Joomla module and plugin/mambot managers to view and take note of any customized parameters.
- (Optional but strongly recommended for production sites) In the Joomla backend change the status of your site to ‘offline’ in the Global Configuration.
- In the Joomla backend use the Menu manager to delete the JCal Pro® component menu item.
- In the Joomla backend use the ‘Components > JCal Pro® > Show Themes’ menu item to change the default JCal Pro® theme to ‘Default’.
- In the Joomla backend use the ‘Components > JCal Pro® > Install Themes’ menu item to uninstall any themes (the Default theme cannot be removed).
- In the Joomla backend use the standard Joomla installation interface to uninstall the JCal Pro® component (modules, plugins and other JCal Pro® extensions will be automatically removed).
- Install the latest version of the JCal Pro® component and any modules/plugins/mambots as described in the JCal Pro® documentation taking care to create a new menu item pointing to JCal Pro®.
- In the Joomla backend, use the Joomla module and plugin managers to re-apply any customized parameters you noted above.
- Test your upgraded JCal Pro® on the frontend by logging in with your administrative credentials when prompted.
- In the Joomla backend use the ‘Components > JCal Pro® > Install Themes’ menu item to install the latest themes as necessary. Use the ‘Components > JCal Pro® > Show Themes’ menu item to change the default JCal Pro® theme as appropriate.
- Test your theme on the frontend to ensure it is working as expected.
- In the Joomla backend change the status of your site to ‘online’ in the Global Configuration.
