Today we are proud to announce the official launch of sh404SEF® for Joomla 3.
Building on our earlier release, sh404SEF® (version 4.0.3 and greater) is now fully compatible with a wide range of mobile devices including smartphones and tablets.
To ensure the widest possible compatibility with future Joomla versions, sh404SEF® now relies heavily on the bootstrap-based responsive functionality that is baked into Joomla 3.
As you can see above, this Joomla SEO add-on now has a look and feel similar to other add-ons built for Joomla 3.
Today we released sh404SEF® 4.0.3 (build 1552) of the new version for Joomla! 3.0 .
Release notes: This is the initial general release of sh404SEF® version 4 made available to subscribers. Most notable this is the first general release for Joomla 3.0 and includes new features such as the new character counter.
For the last 3 months we’ve been working quietly behind the scenes on a new version of our Joomla SEO tool — sh404SEF® — and today we have published version 4.0.1.
Joomla 3 support
The main feature in this release is support for Joomla 3. As you can see on the JED, there is very little compatibility for Joomla SEO extensions and the latest version of the CMS, so we are happy to provide additional options for our customers.
As you can see in the screenshot below, we’ve also started supporting some mobile devices such large-format tablets.
Joomla 2.5.9 has been released.
Notable in this build is the inclusion of a low priority security patch for an information disclosure vulnerability affecting versions 2.5.8 and earlier versions of 2.5.
22 items from the bug tracker were also addressed.
Full details can be found in the official 2.5.9 release announcement at joomla.org
Since this release improves security, we recommend that all users perform an Joomla upgrade immediately.
A Joomla upgrade can be performed directly in the Joomla administrative backend. For users with multiple sites, we recommend updating all your sites from Watchful.li — a centralized site manager for Joomla.
Rather than a powerful Joomla SEO tool, sh404SEF® is often misunderstood as simply a friendly URL manager. To help clear this up, we've produced a new video that really hits the highlights of sh404SEF® features that make it the market-leading search engine optimization add-on for Joomla.
The transcript for the video is shown below. We hope you enjoy it!

The 2012 Joomla World Conference was a resounding success and Anything Digital would like to thank the organizers for making this another Joomla event we have been very proud to sponsor. There was always some session to meet the needs of any and all the attendees. Session were included from varied topics within the Joomla Community, Designer, Integrator, and Developer streams.
Anything Digital was well represented as Victor Drover, Ron van Schaik and Jeff Channell as well as Yannick Gaultier (lead developer of Josetta® and sh404SEF®) were there to not just to represent but also to present. The Watchful booth was constantly buzzing with excitement which filled us with pride and the adrenaline which along with the constant flow of coffee kept us going.
In the past few years, Joomla has shifted from an ad hoc to a time-based release schedule with a new version were released every 6 months.
The first two release are called Standard Term Support (STS) releases and are supported for 6 months.
Every third release in this cycle is called a Long Term Support (LTS) release. An LTS release is intended to be very stable and is supported until the next LTS is released.
This gives each major Joomla version a lifetime of approximately 18 months. For most users, a Joomla upgrade is recommend only from one LTS to another LTS.
While this is a great improvement over the earlier ad hoc release "schedule", there are 2 main issues with this approach:
- Many site builders have expressed frustration that 18 months was too short a window to realistically expect sites to be updated, especially for client work.
- The Production Leadership Team or PLT who are responsible for creating and maintaining Joomla releases have noted that under the the current system, the LTS release has too many modifications.
Changes to the Joomla upgrade cycle
At the 2012 Joomla World Conference, the PLT met and addressed these issues by proposing an additional STS release to the Joomla upgrade cycle. The new release schedule would then consist of three STS releases followed by a LTS release.
Anything Digital would like to thank the organizers of SEO Camp Day Toulouse for a wonderful event and inviting Yannick Gaultier, the lead developer of sh404SEF® to speak.
Yannick's presentation focussed on the use of sh404SEF® for Joomla SEO optimization. Features such as duplicate URL management, URL structure, 404 error management, mobile Joomla SEO, security and more were discussed in detail. The slides from this presentation in french can be found below.
The event took place on November 10th in Toulouse France and was a great success. Check out the presentation below and SEO Camp's website for more information about the organization and future events.
