In the past few weeks there has been lots of buzz about Josetta® and we have been fielding tonnes of questions about what it can do and how it is different from other translation solutions.

Given the interest level, we thought it best to summarize the answers to the most common questions we are receiving in a top 10-style list of what makes Josetta® so special.

Each year we attend numerous Joomla Days and conferences around the world.

The highlight of these events is always the international J and Beyond or JAB conference. As in past years, we are attending JAB 2012 to meet users, showcase our products and interact with our colleagues.

JAB 2012 is being held in Bad Nauheim, a small town near Frankfurt, Germany where Elvis Presley was stationed during his time in the US Army. Thus, the theme for JAB 2012 is Meet the Joomla Rock Stars. Given the theme, you might spot a few Elvis impersonators in the sessions and perhaps even on stage!

Yesterday saw the release of Joomla 2.5.4. As always, we recommend that you upgrade your site to the latest version of without delay.

You can upgrade to this version easily using the built-in upgrade system found in the Joomla administrative control panel.

In addition to 157 bug fixes, this version patches 2 low level security issues and introduces three new features.

Full details on Joomla 2.5.4 can be found on the official press release at

Translation is one of the remaining technological hurdles in delivering the web to the widest possible audience.

For years, Joomla and Mambo users have struggled to internationalize their web sites with third-party solutions.

But with the release of Joomla 2.5, multilingual capabilities are now built right into the Joomla core.

While third-party solutions are no longer necessary, translating Joomla content remains a tedious, error-prone and time-consuming task for web site administrators.

This is especially true when one considers the management and training of medium-to-large sized translation teams.

Meet Josetta® — Joomla translation made easy

To solve this problem, we created Josetta®, the translation manager for Joomla 2.5 and beyond.

Today we are proud to announce the immediate availability of Josetta® 1.1.0 build 257, which is fully compatible with Joomla! 2.5!

This is a maintenance and feature release.

Release notes: New features for Josetta®, the native translation manager for Joomla!: per language access, improved user interface with more filtering. Plus a few bug fixes and small changes.

As demonstrated last week with the release of Joomla 2.5.3, security issues can arise unexpectedly in the world of open source software.

Thus, it is hard to overstate the importance of keeping your web site updated with the latest version of Joomla and all the extensions you may have installed.

It is not surprising then that updates in Joomla 2.5 have become fast and easy within a built-in upgrade system.

Updating most extensions is a simple a matter of downloading the latest version and applying it in the Joomla installer.

These are great workflows for any web developer using Joomla and to be effective, one must ensure to be properly notified when new versions of Joomla and Joomla extensions are released.

Be notified — Joomla

To help with this process, we have created a newsletter that is used ONLY to announce when a new version of Joomla is available.

Today we are proud to announce the immediate availability of JCal Pro® 3.0.2 (build 73), which is fully compatible with Joomla! 2.5!

This is a maintenance release.

Notes: This release is to fix issues including some related to timezone settings, iCal imports, JCal Icon menu behavior, module behavior and more as detailed in the changelog.

In  addition this release also introduces a migration tool to import events from a JCal Pro® 2 generated database into a clean installation of Jcal Pro 3.

On Thursday the Joomla project released version 2.5.3 to patch two serious security vulnerabilities affecting Joomla 2.5.2 and all earlier versions including Joomla 1.6 and 1.7.

It is CRITICAL that all Joomla instances — version 1.6, 1.7 and 2.5 — upgrade immediately to version 2.5.3.

Anything Digital is proud to recognize Jeff Channell — our very own Senior Developer — for identifying one of the vulnerabilities on Monday and reporting it to the Joomla Security Strike Team who acted quickly to release the update.

It gives me great pleasure today to officially announce that JCal Pro® for Joomla 2.5 is now available from our app store.

Back in January we released a public beta version and used the feedback to make JCal Pro® the best calendaring solution for your Joomla 2.5 web site.

Most if not all of the features you have come to enjoy and expect from JCal Pro® are available in this most recent release.

In addition, we’ve built upon the power of Joomla 2.5 to add great new options such as placing events in multiple categories, fine-grained control of user permissions, event registration, custom fields for your events and more.

Last June we migrated to a new cart-based subscriptions system. To ease the migration process we maintained a set of subscription bundles and other legacy subscription plans.

However, the new cart-based checkout provides a lot of flexibility and replaces the need for these bundles.

We have slowly reduced our bundled offerings as announced recently when we retired the Events + SEO plan.

Back in September we launched an Events + SEO sale combining our sh404SEF®, JCal Pro® and our RSVP product into one low-cost package.

As we prepare for the official launch of JCal Pro® 3 for Joomla 2.5 next week, we will be retiring this promotion.

JCal Pro® 3 has been written specifically to leverage the flexible URL rewriting features of sh404SEF®. So if you are a JCal Pro® and/or sh404SEF® user, this is the perfect chance to save up to 40%.

Until Monday at 12 PM CDT, you may purchase the Events + SEO package directly from the sh40SEF Buy Now page.

Today we are proud to announce the immediate availability of sh404SEF® 3.4.6 (build 1269), which is fully compatible with Joomla! 1.7 and 2.5!

This is a maintenance release.

Notes: Improved SEO of Facebook buttons, and more flexible tags to insert social buttons in content. Various fixes dealing with multilingual sites. and still: Create and insert Open Graph data, insert Facebook, Tweeter, G+ and G+ pages icons, and track all clicks in Analytics dashboard in your site backend. Plus QR codes, Analytics, shUrls, full url and meta data management.

After much anticipation and progression from Joomla 1.6 and Joomla 1.7, the next long-term Joomla release went live last week, Joomla 2.5.

I’m also happy to report that our extensions are Joomla 2.5 ready:

  • Advanced Site Search - Available to subscribers since January 24 (download)
  • Agora Bulletin Board - Available to subscribers for download on February 17 (try the demo!)
  • JCal Pro®/RSVP - Beta version available free to the public for testing since January 24 (download)
  • sh404SEF® - Available to subscribers since January 24 (download)

Today we are happy to announce the release of JCal Pro® 3 for Joomla 1.7 and Joomla 2.5.

This is an early BETA version and will contain bugs. As such, please use this version for testing purposes only. It is not suitable for a production environment.

Written specifically for Joomla 1.7 and 2.5+

Disclaimers aside, JCal Pro® 3 is a complete re-write of the venerable software and does not rely on any third-party frameworks. It is a Joomla 1.7+ native extension and uses an MVC architecture allowing end users to easily override the output.

Of course the standard Joomla ACL is integrated for fine-grained permissioning.
